Florida becomes 34th state to find every photo for their fallen

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) is pleased to announce that Florida has become the 34th state to find every photo for their Vietnam fallen. There are 1,957 service members from Florida listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and now every one of them has a photo displayed on the Wall of Faces.

VVMF’s Wall of Faces effort aims to connect a face and a story to each of the more than 58,000 names inscribed on The Wall in Washington, D.C. so that future generations will better understand the impact of the Vietnam War on American families. Each name represents a life cut short and a family changed forever by their loss. Putting a face to every name helps further preserve their legacies.

The final photo submitted for Florida was of U.S. Army Pfc. Thomas J. Burton of Pompano Beach, Florida. He made the ultimate sacrifice on November 20, 1968 in the Binh Duong Province of Vietnam. He was 21 years old.

VVMF gives a special thanks to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1036 in The Villages, who have made a concentrated effort to find photos of the fallen since February 2016. At the time, 777 photos were missing from the state.

The nationwide effort to collect a photo of each service member on The Wall began in 2009. More than 56,000 photos of service members who sacrificed all in Vietnam have been found to date. Hundreds of volunteers around the country have been instrumental in locating these photos, and spreading the word about the Wall of Faces.
